Laurisse is thrilled to serve on the Board for an organization so near and dear to her heart. Once upon a time, she was Program Coordinator for North Shore Restorative Justice Society’s Circles in Schools Program. She continues to facilitate cases for the Restorative Response Program when the opportunity arises. She acquired her Masters in Gender and Peace Building from the United Nations mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica, where she had the privilege of hearing stories from an International cohort of students throughout. She subsequently worked for the UN Women Training Centre in the Dominican Republic on courses that promote Gender Equality and are available worldwide. Locally, she has been working for the Provincial Government with Victims of Serious Crime. She also provides Hospital Accompaniment on behalf of WAVAW Rape Crisis Centre on an on call basis.
Laurisse became an NSRJ volunteer in 2014, shortly after graduating with a Social Sciences Degree from the University of Ottawa. She started volunteering for the Circles in Schools Program on a weekly basis, enthusiastic about the facilitation experience it offered as well as the chance to learn from the unparalleled insight youth offer. She also undertook the Facilitation Training in the fall of 2014 and looks forward to many future cases. She became a part of the team in 2015 and is very grateful to be surrounded by such supportive and inspiring people.
NSRJ honours the Elders and Knowledge Holders, past, present and future, and acknowledges with gratitude that our work takes place in communities situated on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam First Nations.
