Alana Abramson
Executive Director
Alana Abramson has been involved with the field of restorative justice as an academic, trainer, and practitioner since 1999. She joined North Shore Restorative Justice in 2002 and has written about police and community through her studies at the School of Criminology at Simon Fraser University.
Alana has extensive practical experience implementing restorative approaches in prison, school, and community settings. She has worked with police and community agencies to promote more restorative responses for community members. Alana is also the Co-coordinator of the Alternatives to Violence Project, Criminology Instructor at Kwantlen Polytechnique University and Simon Fraser University, member of the North Shore Adults at Risk Support Network, and professional member of the North Shore Family Court and Youth Justice Committee. She is currently completing her PhD on the topic of Restorative Justice and Education at Simon Fraser University.
Alana enjoys traveling, vegan cooking and dining, and spending time with her family and two cats.
Teresa Canning
Program Manager
After completing her degree in Criminology at Simon Fraser University, Teresa joined the team at North Shore Restorative Justice Society in 2008. She is an extremely passionate trainer, practitioner and on going learner of Restorative Justice and is proud of the work that NSRJ does.
Teresa has worked in many different areas of Restorative Justice such as facilitating workshops for the Alternatives to Violence Project in Community and Prison settings, helping enhance students' learning as a Teaching Assistant in Restorative Justice at Simon Fraser University and as an advocate for RJ in all aspects of her life. She is currently taking courses at BCIT focusing on Non-Profit Management.
When not working, Teresa can be found with her close friends and family enjoying the beautiful outdoors that the Lower Mainland offers. She is a born and raised North Vancouverite and is extremely happy to be giving back to the community that offered her so much.
